  • Loudoun County, Virginia, is home to 13 species of frogs and toads. This ongoing project documents each species through my original photography, with the goal of creating a free, accessible field guide for citizen scientists, students, and anyone curious about the amphibians of Loudoun County. The project grew out of my volunteer work with Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy’s Amphibian Monitoring Program, where I monitor wetland sites as part of the FrogWatch USA network. So far, I’ve photographed all three toad species found in the county, and six out of the ten frog species. Because Cope’s gray tree frog and the gray tree frog are visually indistinguishable, I will represent both species using one photograph when I create the field guide, along with information on how to tell them apart. Explore the gallery below to get to know some of Loudoun’s amphibian species, and check back as I continue to photograph additional species!
